UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR & TEACHING HOSPITAL, CROSS-RIVER STATE
REGION: SOUTH SOUTH
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) was founded in 1975. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. University of Calabar grew out of the Calabar campus of University of Nigeria (UNN). In April 1975, the Federal Military Government of Nigeria announced that as part of the National Development Plan, seven new universities were to be established at various locations in the country. The University of Calabar was one of the seven universities set up under this programme. The UNICAL & its teaching hospital are located in Calabar Municipal, an ancient city with a long tradition of culture and contact with western civilization. The already developed area of the University occupies a 17-hectare site on the eastern side of the town, between the Great Qua River and the Calabar River. UNICAL can is located off Etta Agbo Rd and can be located using the coordinates of 4°57’13″N 8°20’25″E.
UCTH is located adjacent to the Campus and can be located at the intersection of Etta Agbo Rd and Mary Slessor Ave with coordinates 4°57’57.5″N 8°19’11.4″E.
FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE
REGION: SOUTH WEST
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State was established on the 1st January 1988 by the Federal Government when four universities of technology, earlier merged in 1984 were demerged.
The University started at its mini-campus in Isale-Igbein in the heart of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. In December 1997, it moved to its permanent site on a 10,000-hectare campus which is located next to the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority on the Abeokuta-Ibadan road in the North-Eastern end of the city, 15 km from Abeokuta City Centre with coordinates 7°11’56.8″N 3°27’00.1″E. As at July 2016, the population of the University for undergraduate, post graduate and members of staff was 18,483.
FEDERAL UNIVERSITY, GASHUA,YOBE
REGION: NORTH EAST
The Federal University Gashua was founded in 2011 and took off in 2013. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. The University initially took over the facilities of the former Government Science Technical College Gashua but currently occupies 2000 hectares of land including the former Government Science Technical College Gashua along Gashua Nguru Road. The total population of the University for both Undergraduate, Post graduate, Academic and Non- academic staff, as at July 2016 was 2,717.
The main campus in Gashua is situated on 2000 hectares and is located along the Gashua Nguru Road. The 2000 hectares is a plain flat land
UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI & TEACHING HOSPITAL, BORNO STATE
REGION: NORTH EAST
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is located in Maiduguri, Borno State, in northeast Nigeria. The university was created by the Federal Government in 1975, with the intention of its becoming one of the country’s principal higher-education institutions. The University of Maiduguri took off in April in 1976 by inheriting the facilities of the North-east College of Arts and Sciences (NECAS) when the College was taken over by the Federal Government. The total population of the University for both Undergraduate, Post graduate, Academic and Non- academic staff as at July 2016 was 38,642.
Both the College and the associated Teaching Hospital cater, respectively, to manpower and health needs in Nigeria’s north-east, as well as in the adjoining countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
The University can be located using the coordinates of 11°47’50″N 13°11’44″E. The University Teaching Hospital is located less than 4km north of the campus grounds and can be located using the coordinates of 11°49’30″N 13°11’19″E.
NIGERIAN DEFENSE ACADEMY, KADUNA
REGION: NORTH WEST
The Nigerian Defense Academy was founded by a decree of the Federal Government in 1964. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. The Nigerian Defense Academy was established as a reformation of the British-run Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC) and later renamed the Nigerian Military Training College. The institution trains the officer corps of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Nigerian Air force. In 1985, the academy started offering undergraduate courses to military officers and currently offers postgraduate studies for M.Sc and Ph.D. for both military and civilian students. The total population of the Institution for both Undergraduate, Post graduate, Civil and Military staff, as at July 2016, was 5,800.
The Nigerian Defense Academy is situated on 1,217.61 (approximate) hectares and is located along Mando Road, off Kaduna – Zaria express way, Kaduna, Nigeria.
MICHAEL OKAPARA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE UMUDIKE, ABIA STATE
REGION: SOUTH EAST
The Michael Okpara University of agriculture Umudike was founded in 1993. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, formerly Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, was established as a specialized University by the Federal Government of Nigeria via Decree No 48 of 2nd November 1992 and began formal activities on May 1993.
The Institution is located in the well-known Agricultural Training and Research town of Umudike, about 9 kilometers from Umuahia town, the capital of Abia State. The major link road to the University is the Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene Federal Road, a direct route to the State capitals of Abia, Akwa – Ibom and Cross River. It commenced its activities at the premises of the former Federal College of Agriculture, Umudike with coordinates 5°28’43.7″N 7°32’32.2″E. As at October 2016, the population of the University for undergraduate, postgraduate and members of staff was 31,684.
UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA, FCT, ABUJA
REGION: NORTH CENTRAL
The University of Abuja was founded in 1988. The University’s governing bodies are the University Council and the Senate. The University initially took over the facilities of the former Gwagwalada Phase II Primary School. The total population of the University for both Undergraduate, Post graduate, Academic and Non- academic staff, as at July 2016, was 20,312.
The main campus of the University of Abuja is situated on 11,800 hectares and is located along Airport Road Abuja Municipal Area Council. The campus is generally undulating and interspaced by streams and annual runoffs that are major points of drainage for the site.
